The Yumpla Project

‘Phunktional worked for four years in Far North Queensland (FNQ), delivering a long-term, place-based community arts and cultural development program called the Yumpla Project.

‘Yumpla’ in Torres Strait Island Creole means, ‘You, Me and the Group’. Use of the word ‘yumpla’ was approved by local community leaders and the local project reference groups.

Between 2015 and 2018, Phunktional worked closely with communities in Cairns, Cooktown, Atherton Tablelands and the Torres Strait Islands, to deliver arts and wellbeing workshops, two educational theatre performances, and to support young people to create their own performances to share with their communities.
