Phunktional’s performance for Waan Danse 2012 New Caledonia.
The 2012 festival brought together traditional dance, hip-hop and contemporary dance over two days and featured more than 150 dancers from New Caledonia, France, Australia and New Zealand.
Phunktional presented a solo by Gerard Veltre, a solo by Demi Sorono and a duet piece that toured the island to perform in venues ranging from tents to the famous Jean-Marie Tjibaou Cultural Centre. Phunktional also participated in workshops with local communities.
In local culture, breakdancing has always been something for the boys. Through performance and workshops, Demi proved to be a great role model for the emerging culture of female breakdancing in New Caledonia.
