A theatre performance aimed at lower Secondary College students

Who Stole the Sole? is a high impact, explosive theatrical journey that combines break-dance and pop-music to deliver a captivating show with a very important message about cyber-bullying, for youths.

A play that explores the complex world of teenage communication on and off-line, dealing with issues such as, cyber-safety, bullying, relationships and homophobia. Creating a catalyst for further discussion, developed for middle school audiences, years 7,8 & 9 AND parents.

Why A Show About This?

Given the rise of social networking sites aimed at young people, and youths who are more technologically savvy with the internet, 'Who Stole the Sole?’ is particularly relevant for engaging with a problem currently faced by young people today in Australia.

Covert bullying, such as cyber bullying, has the potential to result in more severe psychological, social and mental health problems than overt bullying and is more difficult for schools and parents to detect. A shocking 1 in 6 young people have reported being bullied in covert ways such as teasing, exclusion from groups and bullying through cyber-space[1]. This highlights the need for an educational resource such as ‘Who Stole the Sole’.

Research has shown that covert bullying presents a higher effect-to-danger ratio, in that it contributes to the greatest harm, largely through social isolation, to the student being bullied. Students have reported that when covertly bullied they feel lonely, scared, angry, hurt, annoyed, embarrassed, stressed, helpless, and do not enjoy school.

What to do if you are cyber-bullied:[1] 

  • Don't respond to the message or image
  • Save the evidence
  • Block and delete the sender
  • Report it to the website or Internet Service Provider
  • Tell somebody you trust
